UAE Visa for Indian Citizens

If you hold an Indian passport and call London, Frankfurt, Chicago, Sydney or Auckland home, Dubai probably already sits on your flight path — Emirates, Etihad and flydubai route much of the India-bound traffic from Europe, North America and Oceania straight through the emirate. That makes a UAE visa less a distant travel document and more a piece of everyday logistics: something to sort out before the family trip back to India, not an afterthought squeezed in at the last minute.

For many Indians abroad, Dubai isn't just a layover city — it's become a holiday in its own right. A long weekend built around a stopover, a shopping trip timed before the wedding season back home, or a full week with the kids at a theme park all need the same pre-arranged visa as a standalone Dubai holiday, because India is not on the UAE's visa-free or visa-on-arrival list.

There is one exception worth knowing if you've built a life outside India: travellers holding a valid US visit visa, a US Green Card, or a UK or EU residence permit may qualify for a 14-day visa on arrival at UAE immigration, issued at the border rather than in advance. It's a genuine concession, but it's narrow — check your specific document against your airline's requirements before you rely on it, because boarding staff can deny check-in if the paperwork doesn't match what they expect.

Outside that narrow case, every other stay — including the popular 30-day and 60-day tourist visas that cover a proper family holiday or a longer visit to relatives working in the Gulf — needs to be arranged before you fly, not requested at the airport.
