Dubai (UAE) Visa for Sri Lankan Citizens

Colombo to Dubai is an overnight hop rather than an expedition, and that shapes how Sri Lankan travellers plan it. A trip gets decided on a Tuesday for the following weekend; a school break opens up and somebody books; a supplier meeting quietly turns into three days in the city. The one part of that plan which will not compress to fit is the visa, because Sri Lanka is not on the UAE's visa-free list — an ordinary Sri Lankan passport needs an approved visa before you leave, and there is no counter at the other end where it can be sorted out instead.

So when a booking reaches us with the flight already ticketed, we would rather start with a look than with a payment link. Send us the information page of your passport and the dates you have actually booked, and somebody reads both before any money changes hands. That first read is where the awkward things surface: a name shortened on the airline booking, a return date sitting outside the window you thought you had, a passport closer to its expiry than you remembered it being.

After that the shape of it is simple enough to hold in your head. You fill in the form online, which takes most people about ten minutes; a person on our team goes through the file by hand; and once it is approved, the visa reaches you as a PDF in your email, typically two to four working days after we submit. That PDF is what you show at the check-in desk in Colombo — on your phone or printed out, whichever you are more likely to actually have on you at five in the morning.

The single thing we send back most often on Sri Lankan files is a passport number typed slightly wrong: a zero read as the letter O, a one read as an I, or a character dropped somewhere near the end. It is an honest mistake and it takes ten seconds to correct while your file is still sitting with us. Left in, it becomes a mismatch between your visa and the document you are travelling on, which is not a conversation anybody wants to be having at an airport counter. So somebody reads the number off your scan and compares it against what you typed, every time.
